Insurance Claim Assistance for Property Damage

The documentation created in the first 48 hours largely determines what your claim pays. Most of it has to be captured before cleanup starts.

Claims are decided on evidence. Moisture readings taken on arrival, photographs of the damage before anything is moved, a written record of what was removed and why - those are what an adjuster works from. Once cleanup begins, the evidence for the pre-cleanup condition is gone, and reconstructing it afterwards is far weaker than capturing it at the time.

We are a preferred vendor for major carriers, which means we already work in the formats and estimating platforms adjusters use. Our scope of work goes over in the structure they expect, with supporting documentation attached, which removes most of the back-and-forth that stretches claims out.

A point that causes a lot of confusion: your policy requires you to prevent further damage. That means you do not need full claim approval before emergency mitigation starts - carriers expect you to act. Waiting for approval before extraction typically enlarges the loss and can create a dispute over the additional damage. We start mitigation and document it as we go.

We work for you rather than for the insurer, and we will say so when a scope comes back short of what the property actually needs. Being a preferred vendor makes the process smoother; it does not mean we write the estimate the carrier would prefer.

What to do before we arrive

Photograph everything first

Wide shots of each room and close-ups of the damage, before moving anything. This is the single most valuable thing you can do for your claim.

Stop the source if it is safe

Shut off the water or cut power to the affected area. Your policy obliges you to limit further damage, and doing so protects the claim.

Do not throw anything away

Damaged items are evidence. Photograph and set them aside rather than discarding them - disposing of them before documentation can reduce what is paid.

Report the loss promptly

Call your carrier to open the claim and get a claim number. Late reporting is one of the more common reasons for reduced or denied payment.

Common Questions

Insurance Claim Assistance questions

What Utah property owners ask us most about insurance claim assistance.

Should I call my insurance company or you first?

Call us first if water is actively spreading - stopping the damage matters more than the paperwork order, and your policy requires you to limit further loss. Otherwise call your carrier to open the claim, then call us. Either order works; we coordinate with the adjuster regardless.

Will filing a claim raise my premium?

It can, depending on your carrier, your claim history, and the cause of loss. For a small loss it is worth comparing the likely repair cost against your deductible before filing. For anything structural or involving contamination, the claim is almost always the right call.

What if my insurance company denies part of the claim?

Denials frequently come down to documentation or how the cause of loss was characterised, and both are challengeable. We supply the moisture logs, photographs, and written scope supporting what the property needed. If the dispute goes beyond that, we can point you toward a public adjuster.
